AWR2944: Reference number for power consumption for whole module with ethernet

Part Number: AWR2944

HI team,

From the datasheet, we understand the power consumption for AWR2944 is ~2.25W @ 50% duty cycle.

But the AWR2944EVM is ~3.xW, customer wants to have a quick estimated number to design the heatsink for whole module.

Can you please provide a reference number for whole module power consumption when 2944 is running at ~2.25W(50% duty cycle), with ethernet output at 10-20Mbps?

Thanks,

Wesley

  • Hello Wesley,

Power consumption of the module varies according to Temperature, process and power supply conditions. The numbers quoted in the datasheet are with nominal devices at room temperature and nominal voltage supply.

    But the AWR2944EVM is ~3.xW

How did the customer quote this 3.x number? What were the power measurement conditions here? Is it for 50% duty cycle? What is the activity of the digital cores present in the device?

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • HI Ishita,

For AWR2944 EVM, with nothing booting with SOP mode = 101, the power consumption is 2.5W

Then, with SDK4.2 TDM OOB demo, no RF configuration, the power consumption is 2.9W

Then, with SDK4.2 TDM OOB demo, with 1.8% RF configuration, the power consumption is 3.1W

    profileCfg 0 77 429 7 57.14 0 0 70 1 256 5209 0 0 30
    chirpCfg 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1
    chirpCfg 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 4
    frameCfg 0 1 16 0 256 100 1 0

Then, with SDK4.2 TDM OOB demo, with 50% RF configuration, the power consumption is 4.0W

    profileCfg 0 77 4 7 200 0 0 7 1 256 2000 0 0 30
    chirpCfg 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1
    chirpCfg 1 1 0 0 0 0 0 4
    frameCfg 0 1 128 0 256 100 1 0

And that's the reason that customer wants to understand the reference number for heat design.

Let me know  if you have any questions.

    Thanks.

    Wesley

  • Hello Wesley,

Apologies for the delay and Thanks for providing this information.

What is the temperature and the part split of the device used by the customer here?

Let me get in touch with you offline on this.

    Regards,

    Ishita
