IWR6843AOPEVM: Examples confirmation about "Vital Signs With People Tracking" in mmware_industrial_toolbox.

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST

I have a question about "Vital Signs With People Tracking" in the demo environment "mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_11_0".
In this demo environment, sometimes people are not recognized when they sit in front of the sensor.
Also, even if you are recognized as a person and hold your breath while measuring vital signs, "Respiratory arrest" may not be displayed, or In some cases, the vital signs continue to be measured even when a person is not present.

Please let me know how to solve these cases.

  • I am only using the IWR6843AOPEVM device to conduct this demo environment "Vital Signs With People Tracking", do I also need an additional ”Industrial mmWave Carrier Board (MMWAVEICBOOST)” device?

  • Hi Kazuo,

You do not need the additional mmwave carrier board for this demo.

How far away are you sitting from the sensor? How long has the person been absent from the scene when the vital signs are still displaying?

    Thank you,

    Angie

  • Hi Angie,

    Thank you for your response.

For this demonstration, I followed the instructions in the People Tracking with Vital Sign Measurement User's Guide.
I took the measurement by sitting about 2 meters away from the sensor.
When a person enters and sits within the sensor range, it is detected, but even if the person leaves the seat and moves out of the sensor range, it remains detected and continues to measure heart rate and respiration.
The same situation can be observed even after several minutes of absence.

Even if a person stops breathing for one minute during the measurement, "Breath:0" will not be displayed and the breath counting will continue.

Please advise how to resolve this issue.

    Thank you,
    Kazuo

  • Hi Kazuo,

I am sorry if this reply is not helpful, I personally have not experienced what you are seeing when running the demo so I am going to ask some questions to try to better understand your set up:

    1. Did you modify the cfg file that comes with this lab?

    2. Have you seen the same behavior if the person is at 1m?

    3. What does the room look like that you are testing in? Are there any reflective surfaces (i.e. white board, screen) nearby?

    Thank you,

    Angie

  • Hi Angie.

    Thank you for your response.
The following are the answers to your questions.

    > 1. Did you modify the cfg file that comes with this lab?

No, it has not been changed.

    > 2. Have you seen the same behavior if the person is at 1m?

I performed this demo at a distance of 1m to 2m from the sensor and the results were the same.

    > 3. What does the room look like that you are testing in? Are there any reflective surfaces (i.e. white board, screen) nearby?

On the side of the room there is a copy machine and lockers, and on the back side there is a whiteboard and a window.
The whiteboard is about 4m from the sensor.
Is the presence of the whiteboard affecting the results?

    Thank you,
    Kazu

  • Hi Kazu,

It could be that the radar is reflecting off of the white board behind the sensor and creating a ghost so that when the person exits the scene their reflections are still present bouncing off of the whiteboard.

I would next try a different setting in a more open space and see if the problem persists.

    Thank you,

    Angie

  • Hi Angie,

    Thank you for your response.
Please wait until we have more confirmation and will get back to you with the results.

    Regards,
    Kazu
