AWR1642BOOST: Is there any function or method that can let us know whether it is raining or not when using awr1642?

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642

Hi! All!

Thanks for TI’s helps. We are using the awr1642 to apply the Blind spot detection. The Radar has been installed outside of the car including awr1642, PCB and the shell. The shell fully covers the awr1642 without any leakage. We can detect the objects behind us using awr1642. The accuracy of the Range and Doppler are pretty well. However, when the sky start raining, the detection of radar might be effect. Maybe the millimeter wave cannot go straight forward to the object. To the end, the objects cannot be detect very well.

Q1. Is there any function or method that can let us know whether it is raining or not?

Q2. Is there any function or method that can let us know the surface of the shell is wet or not?

We want to switch the radar mode to the idle mode.

Is there any help? I'm very appreciate for your help! Thank you!

Best regard,

Webb

  • Hi,

There is no direct way to detect the rain. However there are radars used for applications such as traffic monitoring. So I think there are ways to compensate for this environment.

Unfortunately our team does not have experience with this system issues

    thank you
