AWR2243: Cascade Radar Frame configuration

Hi Experts,

Good day. Seeking assistance on this query:

We are configuring TI AWR2243 cascade radar with all the TX and RX antennas and 128 chirploops per frame. Our question is how the 12 tx antennas are transmitting these 128 chirploops? Is it like, Tx1 transmits all 128 chirps, then Tx2 transmits 128 chirps,....... Tx12 transmits 128 chirps? Or, Tx1 transmits chirp 1, then tx2 transmits chirp 2, .... tx 12  transmits chirp 12 to complete 1 chirploop. In this way 128 chirploops are completed?

Thank you.

Regards,
Archie A.

  • Hi,

This will depend on the frame/chirp configuration.

Usually there are two types of configuration used: Beamforming and MIMO.

In Beamforming mode all chirps are transmitted at the same time (all TX are enabled at the same time)

In MIMO mode one TX is enabled at one time.So for example, Tx1 will send the first chirp, then Tx2 will send the second chirp.... This information will be part of the chirp configuration

How are you performing this configuration?

how the 12 tx antennas are transmitting these 128 chirploops? Is it like, Tx1 transmits all 128 chirps, then Tx2 transmits 128 chirps,....... Tx12 transmits 128 chirps? Or, Tx1 transmits chirp 1, then tx2 transmits chirp 2, .... tx 12  transmits chirp 12 to complete 1 chirploop. In this way 128 chirploops are completed?

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hi Cesar, I do have the same question for TDMA MIMO configuration.

  • For BF, all Tx send chirp1, then chirp 2, ...

For MIMO, Tx1 sends chirp 1. Tx2 sends chirp 2 ... as specified by the configuration

So, basically, the configuration describes the behavior

    thank you
