OPT3001-Q1: can single-shot happen before conversion completion?

Hello,

A single-shot conversion happens when "Mode of conversion operation field" of the configuration register is configured as 01. But what if the register write happens before the completion of previous conversion? Such that a new write 01 command is sent 50ms after the firest one. Will the second command ignored or the first one will be ignored and the second one will be accepted?

Hello Masatoshi-san,

When the 01b command is written to the configuration register, the register will only clear back to 00b after the conversion has finished, which is a minimum of 100ms. Therefore, when after 50ms another 01b is written to the configuration register, essentially 01b is overwriting 01b, leading to no change in device functionality: the conversion will complete and reset to 00b at the end of the 100ms or 800ms.

Thank you very much for the answer. So, how about writing 11b after 50ms of 01b? Does the device abort the single shot conversion at 50ms and start a continuous conversion?

Hello Oguri-san,

Forgive me for the delay. We've tested and identified the behavior of the device. When conversion mode 11b (continuous) is written to the device, it will overwrite the previous conversion mode and the output will be delayed until the new conversion mode finishes.

For example:

Time	Command	Output from 0x00	Notes
0ms	Write single-shot mode (01b)
45ms	Read data	0x0000	Previous conversion data may be here. 0x0000 should be expected if device has been powered up from no power.
50ms	Write continuous mode (11b)
105ms	Read data	0x0000	0ms Single shot should have data read out if continuous mode 11b was not written
160ms	Read data	0x2A64	arbitrary data, but some change in data will occur since continuous mode has finished converting data
