IWR6843AOPEVM: IWR6843AOPEVM no longer works with mmWave Demo visulaizer

Part Number: IWR6843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

I've been using the IWR6843AOPEVM for about 6 months now but haven't used it in about 1 month. Now when I try to use the IWR6843AOPEVM with the online demo visulaizer at https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/mmwave/mmWave_Demo_Visualizer/ver/3.5.0/  I have a problem

I go to connect it via Serial as usual, my same com ports (com 4 and com 5 come up) same baud settings of 115200 and 921600. I select "OK" it closes the window but at the bottom it never gets past "Connecting to 1 of 2 targets..."

Whats going on?

Peter

  • Hi Peter,

It sounds to me like you've either got your Application & Data COM ports backwards or forgot to switch your device from flashing mode to functional mode. Give those two fixes a try, one at a time. (Remember to press the reset button after switching modes.)

    Hope this helps,

    Luke

  • I've tried switching the com ports that didn't resolve the issue (I've been using the same ports I'd always used). I didn't adjust the switch previously but I did try it in both positions, same issue.

  • Also make sure you do not have Uniflash open at the same time.

  • Yes, I even tried it with restarting my computer, only opening my web-browser and going from there.

  • Understood,

Just give the Out-Of-The-Box Demo guide a thorough look through one last time (specifically making sure that all of the switches are configured properly and that you're using the correct microUSB port on the AOP EVM, but if you've successfully been flashing the device, then I am sure you've got it right).

If you've restarted your device, you know you've been properly switching between flashing and functional, know you're flashing with the correct binary from binary and you've guaranteed you're COM ports are correct.

The next step is to use Tera-Term and and check for a data stream to verify your EVM is still functional. To do this, work through the Hard-Coded Config lab: $(INDUSTRIAL_TOOLBOX)\labs\Fundamentals\Hard_Coded_Config . You do not have to make a custom configuration, just use the example one given in the lab. If you can get output in the terminal, then we know the EVM is still functional.
