TMAG5273: North and South Pole affects the IC Package

Part Number: TMAG5273

Hi,

Good Day. I have a customer who is working with TMAG5273. Please see below his query for your reference. Thank you very much.

I have a question about the TMAG5273.
How does the North/South pole facing the package affect the output?
For example in the datasheet, the magnet North faces the IC package
What happens if the South pole faces the IC package?
As shown in Figure 7-1, the TMAG5273 will generate positive ADC codes in response to a magnetic north pole in the proximity.
Similarly, the TMAG5273 will generate negative ADC codes if magnetic south poles approach from the same directions.
For Figure 7.1, what happens if the North pole approaches the IC from the bottom instead of the top?
I'm working on the PCB design right now and component placement is going to be crucial.
Should you have any diagrams to better explain etc. it would be great.
Best Regards,
Ray Vincent
  • Ray,

Thank you for reaching out on E2E.  The journal article below highlights some of the questions you brought up:

Particularly, consider figure 4.  What is important to consider is the direction of the magnetic field vector as it wraps around the magnet from N to S.  Presenting the S pole to the top of the PCB produces a field in the same direction as presenting the N pole from the bottom of the PCB.

    Thank you,
