FOV of RADAR upto 100 sq m.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843AOPEVM, IWR6843ISK

Hi,

I am looking for a RADAR sensor that can be installed overhead to count people and have a FOV of approx 10m X 10m.

Please help me choose the EVM for this and also the minimum height at which the board should be installed in order to get 100 sq m FOV.

Thanks, and Regards
Samidha

  • Hello,

If the radar sensor is pointed straight at the ground in a traditional overhead setup, it would need to be very high to cover 10x10m because the field of view is 120 degrees. It would need to be mounted almost 9m up in the air to cover that space on the floor. If this is possible, the the IWR6843AOPEVM is a good sensor to test with.

If traditional ~3m ceilings are used, I would suggest using a wall mounted configuration with the IWR6843ISK. This can be tilted down slightly to survey the 10x10 area and will cover that area well.

I suggest you look at our 3D people counting labs for wall mount and overhead mount setups.
