IWR6843ISK: IWR6843ISK

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR6843ISK, , IWR6843AOP, IWR6843AOPEVM

Hi,

I have few questions related to mmWave OOB Demo

1. The platform name returned by version command, what are the possible platform names the command can return.

For ex. for iwr6843isk or awr6843isk, the platform returned is A6843.

What are the values returned for all other boards of mmWave Radars. Is there a doc for this?

In the mmwave SDK user guide, the below table is given

2. The binary mentioned for IWR6843AOP module is xwr64xxAOP_mmw_demo. I was expecting the binary to be xwr68xx_mmw_demo which is the binary for xwr6843ISK. Why is the binary differing for AOP and ISK modules?

3. the binary xwr68xx_mmw_demo is only supported for IWr6843ISK EVM not for AWR6843ISK EVM. Why is this so? Apart from changes in CAN interfaces, operating temperature and Safety compliance, IWR6843ISK and AWR6843ISK seems same. If so why is this binary not supported for AWR6843ISK?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Gayatri

  • Hello.

The platform name returned by version command, what are the possible platform names the command can return.

I am not familiar with the version command.  I did not see such command in the cli file in the SDK; could you please clarify what command this is?

    2. The binary mentioned for IWR6843AOP module is xwr64xxAOP_mmw_demo. I was expecting the binary to be xwr68xx_mmw_demo which is the binary for xwr6843ISK. Why is the binary differing for AOP and ISK modules?

This is because the OOB demo for the AOP does not utilize the DSP.  The 64xx devices do not utilize the DSP, and so as a result we labeled it as 64xxAOP to indicate that the AOP version of the demo does not utilize the dsp.

    3. the binary xwr68xx_mmw_demo is only supported for IWr6843ISK EVM not for AWR6843ISK EVM. Why is this so? Apart from changes in CAN interfaces, operating temperature and Safety compliance, IWR6843ISK and AWR6843ISK seems same. If so why is this binary not supported for AWR6843ISK?

You should be able to flash an IWR bin onto an AWR device.  The oob user guide shows an EVM compatibility list that shows it is supported on xwr6843, meaning both IWR and AWR.  Is this a failure you are running into?

    Sincerely,

    Santosh

  • Follow up question on the 2nd point, does that mean xwr68xx_mmw_demo wont work for IWR6843AOPEVM?

  • Yes it will.  However, it will have poor performance as it is meant for the ISK.  We recommend you use the AOP-specific binary or the 6443 binary for better performance.

    Sincerely,

    Santosh
