Hi TI,

We are designing an RF Shield for a customized IWR6843-ODS Board and the Hardware measures are taken care as per the requirements mentioned in https://www.ti.com/lit/an/spracp3c/spracp3c.pdf?ts=1664182704738&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F .

Can you provide us the details on the shield material, height and thickness that you would recommend ?

Hi Balaji,

You can work with a shield vendor to help with the detail. I have seen a shield that was made of Brass with Nickel Plating. Thickness was about 0.3 mm. The height we about 4.5 mm. You need to be careful with the height to make sure it would not interfere with the FOV of the antennas. I recommend that you run HFSS simulation. I would also recommend adding thin RF absorber material inside the shield enclosure near the top side to help reduce internal wave scattering.

Hi Balaji,

Visually it looks OK. I would also recommend adding the following high loss thin microwave absorber material inside the shield box. That material would help absorb radiated energy inside the RF shield box. You can place the material toward the inner ceiling of the shield.

Hi Sami,

Thanks for your quick response.

On the absorber part, what is the thickness of the material that you would recommend to use.

Shield Height : 3.5mm

Air Gap : 1.98 mm (Between Shield inner ceiling and SoC)

I will go with 0.5 mm thick absorber.
