DCA1000EVM: Unresponsive to ethernet commands

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, IWR6843

Hi there

I hope you are well.

I've been using the DCA1000 for a university project. I've developed my own python package using the mmwave platform toolbox to configure the radar board and stream data into python. It was working perfectly untill yesterday when the DCA1000 started acting up. I send the required commands via ethernet to the board but get no response back. The mmwaveICBoost and IWR6843 boards are fine as I get a serial response back from them after writing serial config commands to those boards. So the problem has to be with the DCA1000.

I have taken the following steps after reading the DCA1000 debug handbook:

  1. Checked the board is connected (the ethernet port has an amber LED that is constantly on and a green LED which turns on and off intermittently).
  2. Ethernet static IP is set correctly at 192.168.33.30 and 255.255.255.0
  3. Tried a different cable
  4. All COM ports are present and have no warning signs in Device manager
  5. Tried the Setup DCA1000 button in mmwave studio. Which results in the following errors:
    1. Sending fpga command to DCA1000 => Invalid lvdsMode value (0). [error -4016]
    2. Sending record command to DCA1000 => Timeout Error! System disconnected
    3. Sending fpga_version command to DCA1000 => Unable to read FPGA Version. [error -5]
  6. The corresponding commands show up on wireshark but no response is read in.
  7. I've disabled the firewall
  8. I've reflashed the FPGA with DCA1000 bit file as per the user guide. I was using mmWaveStudio 2.1.1.0 with FPGA v2.8. The FPGA_Done LED is green.

Nothing seems to have resolved the issue.

Best regards

  • Hello Nicholas,

Thank you for the detailed run down of what you have tried and I am sorry that you have had trouble with the DCA1000. Based on what you have listed, one thing that can still be the issue is the power supply. How are you providing power to the DCA1000 and what is the power rating for it? Is it 5V 3A?

    Best Regards,
