TMP006 for Human Temperature Measurements

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP006

Hi,

I have receive a new TMP006EVM as I wanted to check the possibilities of using TMP006 for body temperature measurement.

However, as I see so far I can only sense a skin temperature rather.

Any help/advice will be appreciated.

Regards

Jan

BTW, my kit has a problem with USB connector mounting, it is at some angel, not aligned with the pcb,

so please check the QC of assembly.

  • Hello Jan,

I split this thread because it seemed like a different topic.

To start, the TMP006 is not a medical grade product and has typical accuracy specs of +/-1C so I'm not sure how good of a measurement you're going to achieve in this application.

If I understand your question, you're expecting to read the temperature of the internal human body which should be around +37C (98.6F).  Instead you're measurement is returning the temperature of the skin which may be colder than internal body temperature.  This the correct operation of the TMP006.  The device integrates the surface temperatures of the objects in it's field of view and returns the resulting calculated temperature.

I'm sorry to hear about the QC issue with the EVM you've received.  I appreciate you bringing this to our attention and we will investigate internally

    Thanks and Regards,

  • Collin,

How fast can the TMP006 sample? It seems to be able to do 1SPS. If you wanted to do skin temperature measurements (ignoring the +/- 1 degree C issue), would this be possible? Say by directly placing the sensor on the skin using a patch with a breathable material?
