OPT3101: Accurately measure distances of 2 cm up to 100 m.

Part Number: OPT3101

Hi Team,

I am looking for a time of flight sensor to accurately measure distances of 2 cm up to 100 m. I understand this may require different sensors. The only data I could find on accuracy and distance was concerning the OPT3101 having 1 mm accuracy but only measured up to 2.5 m. Can this sensor be configured to measure different ranges? If so, how is the accuracy affected as distance increases? The intended application is to measure the distance a beam of light travels through a sample cell. We have sample cells that range from 2.5 cm up 80 m.

We have cells of different sizes. Optically, the cells have pathlengths of 2.5 cm, 5 m, 10m, 32m, and 80m. The actual cells are much smaller. Mirrors are used to bounce light back and forth multiple times so that a 0.3m cell has an optical pathlength of 10m. Can you provide documentation that shows what sensors may work for these distances? Also, what is the accuracy of said sensors?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello,

Our OPT3101 is an AFE with external optics and so because the optics are external, the range, accuracy, FoV, and other characteristics depend largely on the optics chosen.  For example we have an EVM available for purchase that has a range of 10m with a FoV of 10 degrees.  With de-aliasing techniques, the range can be extended much further.  We have a few 3rd party partners that have extended the range up to 40m like the TF-02Pro.  They have a few options that may work for you.
