PGA460: Electrostatic Transducer

Part Number: PGA460

Hi,

Good Day.

The customer is working on an ultrasonic ranging application.

It is at the limits of what most piezo transducers seem capable of.

Is the PGA460 suitable for driving an electrostatic transducer?

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hello Ray,

Thank you for posting to the sensing forum! We have not tried using an electrostatic transducer with the PGA460 because most electrostatic transducers we have looked into required a DC voltage bias that was not 0V. Such as the Senscomp 604142 which requires a DC voltage bias of 200V. If the transducer can be properly driven without a DC bias voltage then I believe it should work but if the transducer does require the bias voltage the transducer might get damaged in operation.

My recommendation would be for the customer to check with the transducer manufacturer if a DC bias voltage is required so that they do not damage their transducer.

    Best,

    Isaac
