AWR6843: Power consumption in different radar versions

Part Number: AWR6843
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843, , , AWR1843

Hi.

What should I expect in terms of power consumption if I move from one radar version to another, provided that the radars have the same HW set (e.g., RF+MCU+HWA+DSP), same number of Tx/Rx (e.g., 3Tx/4Rx), same signal and ADC configuration, and similar processing SW?

Will there be any significant change of consumed power in following cases?

1) IWR vs. AWR (for example, IWR6843 and AWR6843)

2) Non-AoP vs. AoP (for example, AWR6843 and AWR6843AOP)

3) 60 GHz vs. 77 GHz (for example, AWR6843 and AWR1843)

Thank you!

  • Hi Nikolay,

There won't be major difference between power consumption between IWR and AWR parts assuming same HW set. For example, in your question AWR6843 will be similar to IWR6843 in terms of power consumption.

I will need to verify questions 2 and 3. I will get back to you within a day.

    Best Regards,
    Kevin

  • Hi Nikolay,

    1) IWR vs. AWR (for example, IWR6843 and AWR6843)

          - There will not be differences in power consumptions between IWRxxxx and AWRxxxx. However, the max operating junction temperature of the AWR devices is higher than IWR, therefore the worst case power would be dufferent.

    2) Non-AoP vs. AoP (for example, AWR6843 and AWR6843AOP)

         - No differences here.

    3) 60 GHz vs. 77 GHz (for example, AWR6843 and AWR1843)

         - The 77GHz parts would consume slightly more power due to the higher frequency range. Device datasheets contain typical power numbers.

    Best Regards,

    Kevin
