HDC2022: Will it would affect the HDC2022's performance with a waterproof and breathable membrane?

Part Number: HDC2022

Hi team,

The customers want to get HDC2022 to be waterproofed. I read some e2e questions about the waterproof. The sensor was waterproofed IP67 with PTFE on top of device. So they need to use waterproof and breathable membrane to protect the pins of device for electrical safety.

But you know, in mass production, the customers want to use waterproof and breathable membrane to cover the device completely to improve the product efficiency. Would this affect its performance?

  • Nan -

It is very hard to say what would happen with 100% certainty here, however it should be OK if the PTFE membrane has similar material properties of the filter that is already there on the HDC2022. An alternative solution would be to cover the part temporarily with Kapton tape over the existing PTFE filter and apply a conformal coating, then remove the tape to re-expose the PTFE filter.

  • Hi Josh,

         Thanks for your reply.

I talked with customer, they said the membrane was waterproof and the air could go though the membrane. I would ask they that what kind of membrane they would use.

You know, the upper surface area is 3*3mm which would be trouble in assembling with tape solution. It would decrease the efficiency of product in mass product. Do you have other ideas which is suitable for mass product?

  • Dear Nan -

They could use the membrane as you first mentioned, but they would need to test for themselves to see if the membrane they apply makes a water tight seal on the PCB to protect the pins, i think. (This would be true for any of the HDC parts (HDC20xx, HDC30xx))
