IWR6843: clock synchronizaton

As shown in above figure , we want to synchronize the clock (frequency) of two IWR6843, => the osc clock of master radar is fed to the CLKP pin of slave radar.

First , the clock signal of master radar will be accessed from the Ultra-Miniature Coaxial Connector on the MMWAVEICBOOST Board.

But when we connect this interface to an oscilloscope, we can not observe any clock signal on the scope. why? (Do we need to enable this interface by software or?)

the above figure come from 60GHz mmWave Sensor EVMs (Rev. E) (ti.com)

then , I found that this interface access osc_clock through the 60-pin HD connector, while the 60-pin is controlled by the switch.

As shown in above figure ,S1.4 to S1.9 are all related to the 60- pin HD connector . Should we turn off all of these switches to make sure the clock signal is available? and could you inform us where I could find more explanation about this switch?

Yes, the OSC_CLKOUT interface needs to be enabled via software. Please see the e2e ticket below to get started and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your assistance! But I m still not clear about the setting of switches. as explained in 60GHz mmWave Sensor EVMs (Rev. E) (ti.com), the UMC connector access osc_clcokout through 60-pin HD connector. So, should I turn off the switches (S1.4,1.5,1.6,1.7,1.8,1.9) to make sure that UMC connector can access the clock signal through 60-pin?

I am discussing internally with out team. In the meantime, can you please share why you are using the MMWAVEICBOOST with the IWR6843 instead of using the IWR6843 in standalone mode? And which of our IWR6843 EVMs are you using?

2. Q: why are you using the MMWAVEICBOOST with the IWR6843 instead of using the IWR6843 in standalone mode

As shown in the above figure, the MMWAVEICBOOST allows us to synchronize two radars in the time domain. In order to get more good performance of synchronization, we also want to synchronize two radars in frequency (share clock ).

Hi Jialun,

I have more info, on our mmWaveICBOOST board there is a small co-axial connector from which the OSC_CLK could be taken out. It will need a special connector and cable.

According to the figure you shared, I guess this co-axial connector is UMC connector right? but we cannot receive any clock signal from this interface. is it because we did not enable the clock-out pin by software?
