IWR6843ISK: Used Uniflash for demo flashing, but cannot detect the com port.

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH, , MMWAVEICBOOST, IWR6843

We try to use the uniflash to flash demo in the IWR6843ISK + MMwaveIcboost + DCA1000.

The configuration as the picture below.

Our power supply cable is 5V3A .

The com port can be computer detected, but the uniflash show a notice  "Not able to connect to serial port. Recheck the COM port selected."

How to solve this problem?

I saw the same problem on the Chinese forum and finally replied that the board was broken.

But I just got this board for a month.

  • I'm sure no other software occupies the com port and I set it according  training.ti.com/hardware-setup-iwr6843isk-and-iwr6843isk-ods.

  • Hi,

Please note, the DCA1000 is only required for raw data collection and is not needed if you are trying to flash and run a demo.

It appears your switch settings on the ICBOOST may be configured to use the DCA1000. Please see this guide for instructions on setting up the MMWAVEICBOOST+IWR6843ISK for flashing mode.

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • I have tried 3 configure for flashing mode, standalone, IWR6843 + MMwaveIcboost and DCA1000  + IWR6843 + MMwaveicboost.

Config.1(standalone). When I used alone method to do flash the Com port can not be detected.

Config. 2(IWR6843 + mmwaveicboost) When I used this method the com port can be detected, but uniflash show the notification  "Not able to connect to serial port. Recheck the COM port selected."

Before submit the question on the E2E website, I set the EVB and software according to this hyperlink   https://training.ti.com/hardware-setup-iwr6843isk-and-iwr6843isk-ods

I think there is a problem with the quality of the EVB because I tried dozens of times to flashing in, and once I could flahing in, but I always couldn't.

Can I send it back to you for verification?

  • I sure no other software occupied the com port and I have closed the fire wall.

The SOP mode is 101,  The antenna mode is off, off, off, off, on, N/A, The power is 5V/3A and I tried dozens of times to flashing in which has one time can work, so I think the USB cable is suitable.

  • Hi,

Can I send it back to you for verification?

Returns and replacements are not handled on e2e. Please contact customer service to inquire about this.

In the mean time I think there are a couple things we can try which might resolve the issue.

Config.1(standalone). When I used alone method to do flash the Com port can not be detected.

This can sometimes be the case if the Silicon Labs USB to UART bridge drivers are not up to date. Please download the latest drivers from the following link: https://www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

Additionally please keep in mind that the switch settings required for Standalone mode is different from the settings required for EVM + ICBOOST mode. Please be sure that you follow the instructions provided in this guide to ensure you have the correct settings for the mode you choose to use: https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?a=VLyFKFf__4.12.1&node=A__ACzleIuZ4g1GuBmtlq-cGg__com.ti.mmwave_industrial_toolbox__VLyFKFf__4.12.1&placeholder=true

  • Hi, Josh

Thank you for your two advice.

But in fact, I asked the same question at the same time in Chinese E2E and English E2E.

Chinese website gave the same advice as you  gave. I have tried them all. Chinese website said that it needs to be repaired, but needs the permission of the English website engineer.

    Translation

    Hello Jelin

Thank you for contacting TI Customer Service.

Regarding the quality problem you consulted, you need to have the English technical forum engineer to agree to the return, and you can enter the return process.

    Please enter the English forum through the following link, submit an English post, and an engineer will contact you;

    https://e2e.ti.com/

  • I have forwarded your request to a colleague who has the authority to accept returns. They will get back to you shortly.

  • Okay, If you have any new information please let me know. Thank you.

  • Hi Ehtesham,

Could you let me know the current status of this case?

I'm anxious, our development progress needs to be stepped up

  • Hello,

Very sorry for the delay. Based on the details provided, it is not exactly clear which board has the issue so I think we need to get some additional details to determine which board is causing the issue. Are you suspecting it is the ISK board with the issue?

You mention that in standalone mode you cannot see the COM ports. Can you please share an image of the switch settings and your setup when you connect the IWR6843ISK board in standalone mode?

Can you also please share an image of the Other Devices section of the device manager when you have the board connected in standalone mode, similar to below?

    Regards,

    Adrian

  • Hi Aozer,

The configuration of antenna standalone mode as below.

The COM port status is shown in the following left figure. But I have installed the latest driver as shown in the right image below.

Please help us to confirm how situation it is. Thank you.

  • Hi Aozer,

I would like to know if you need more information?

Very sorry. We are very urgency.

If you need more information to determine whether the product is normal please let me know.

  • Hello,

It does not look like you are installing the correct driver. As mentioned in the other email, you need to install the CP210x driver, not the FTDI driver. Please install the correct driver and check again.

  • Hi Aozer,

Thank you, we installed the driver which you provided and  it work appropriately.

  • Hello

Good to hear, I will close this thread.

  • Hi Sir,

      The same problem arise again.

After the last time we can flash in, we temporarily idle, but recently we started to study it but the same problem arise again.

We tried a lot of USB cables and changed computers and didn't work.

I'd like to return it for your inspection. I feel something is wrong with this product.

  • Please see the below picture, It's OK to flash in at 11:18:11 in the morning, but it's not OK to flash in at 11:18:51.

  • Hi,

Just to be clear, you flashed the device once successfully, and then tried to flash it again immediately after, and it failed? If this is the case, there's a few things I would recommend you try:

    1. Ensure that you ALWAYS press the NRST button before flashing. (After ensuring SOP switches are in correct state)
      1. This ensures that the device is ready to accept an image
    2. If you are doing something with the device between the 2 attempts to flash (such as opening a GUI or connecting to the device), be sure that whatever program you are running is not still "Holding" on to the comport. Many programs will not close the COM port if they crash/close.

    Best Regards,
    Alec
