HDC3020-Q1: thermal simulation & thermal test report

Part Number: HDC3020-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HDC3020

Hi Team,

My customer is going to run the thermal simulation.

But HDC3020 cannot calculate Tc(top), can you provide thermal simulation & thermal test report, or is there any suggestion how to judge pass/fail ?

Thanks!

Kai

  • Kai,

Note 2 in the data sheet specifically says that this measurement is not required. It can be challenging to recreate the test necessary to get this value. Simulation is probably not the best method, because there are a lot of unknown factors that need to be accounted for in order to be accurate.  Namely the internal thermal stack up.

My preference to resolving this type of calculation is to use thermal resistances as my basis. If you use a thermal camera, you can setup the system in a similar configuration as the actual application. Measure the heat source, the heat measured on the top of the part and then use the actual thermal measurement of the device. You will then be able to calculate the thermal resistances of the whole system. Us the thermal resistances in your final calculation to resolve thermal losses and you will get a very accurate thermal measurement of the heat source.

    I hope this helps.
