TMP116: Maximum Output Low Current Rating for SDA Output Logic Low level

Part Number: TMP116

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to know the maximum Output Low Current Rating for SDA Output Logic Low level. According to our customer,

We are using TMP116N Digital Temperature Sensor in a defense application.  A contractor provided a design component stress analysis with the Output Low Current Rating of 200ma shown for this component, but I do not see this rating in the May 2019 data sheet.

I see that SDA is an Input/Output pin; output is open-drain.  Recommended pullup is 5K and max voltage is 5.5V so I know the pin can handle 1.1mA.  Under Electrical Characteristics for V(OL)S I see test condition of I(OL) of -3mA, so I know the maximum rating must be greater than -3mA. Please provide the maximum Output Low Current Rating for SDA Output Logic Low level.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Dear Danilo -

200mA is most likely a typo from whatever you got from the contractor, as the resistor value required for such a current would be so low, that the device would not be able to respond back. I2C spec for IOL at the SCL speeds / freq range supported by this device is 3mA, so that is where that value comes from.
