Azimuth Angle Resolution With AWR1843 And AWR2243

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1843, AWR2243

Hello,

  • According to the AWR1843 datasheet and the tests made with the radar and the questions asked in the forum, I understood that the visual antenna in the azimuth direction extends to 8 elements, and therefore, the angular resolution in the azimuth direction is 15 degrees according to figure1.

-> So I want to confirm: if we redesign the antenna pattern so that the visual antenna in the azimuth direction extends to 12 elements (I put 3 Tx at the same level in the azimuth direction). Then I will get a better angular resolution in the azimuth direction and by how much?? (it is 10 degrees??) By doing this, I risk losing the elevation information and we won't be able to calculate the Z height??

  •  From my research, I found that the mmWave cascaded AWR2243 sensor has an azimuth angle resolution equal to 1.4 degrees because there is a virtual array of 86 elements that allows for 1.4 degree angular resolution (in the azimuth direction).  Can I know how to get the 86 element virtual antenna with this radar??

-> with AWR1843 it is clear we multiply (2Tx * 4Rx) = 8 Virtual antenna in azimuth direction it is clear but with a mmWave AWR2243 sensor cascaded how many Tx and Rx to get 86 virtual antenna ?? and which one in the figure below ( figure6) ?

Best,
