How to read dataOutputFromEVM.bin using main_readGUISavedBinary.m IWR1843

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR1843

Hello  everyone

Hello, I would like to ask a question about how to read dataOutputFromEVM.bin using the main_readGUISAvedBinary.m matlab program. I'm currently trying to get heart rate and breathing rate measurements from the xWR1642 project lab but actually I currently have an IWR1843 sensor. However, because the special vital sign project for IWR1843 is not yet available, and I read some references from TI forums it also suggests using a project of the XWr1642 type because it has a slight resemblance. But when I got the data.bin from the vital sign lab project, I had problems reading the output.bin data. The following is the problem that I found can be seen in the following image. Can anyone help me?

  • HI, there:

I need more detail.  Which vital sign lab you are running, how did you get data.bin and where do you find the matlab parsing script main_readGUISAvedBinary.m?

By the way, xWR1642 has 2 TX channels and xWR1843 has 3 TX channels.

  • Hi Mr Zigang

I am currently doing research on contactless vital sign measurements, and I am using a type FMCW IWR1843 radar from Texas Instruments. Currently I have a problem because I don't have DCA1000 to get raw data. So I looked for some information provided by TI in several forums provided. Because I couldn't get raw data independently, I tried to find a special lab for vital signs to get data that I could process. In writing on this forum: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/867592/iwr1843-migrating-from-iwr1642-to-iwr1843?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=migrating%2520IWR1642#says that it can migrate to type xWR1642 to xWR1843. I found some data in mmwave_automotive_toolbox_3_6_0 in the lab vital signs section. When I run the vital sign lab without making any data changes I can get the following results.

When the GUI vital sign is executed it can run, and an option is provided to save the data as shown in orange label above. The output of this GUI is a file in .bin format with the name: dataOutputFromEVM.bin. Then after that I tried to read the data and found the script.m file from the TI forum. I got the main_readGUISAvedBinary.m matlab program from the file: mmwave_automotive_toolbox_3_0_0. After I read and then change some of the output parameters from dataOutputFromEVM.bin I can get the results. Here are the output results:

But from the results above I doubt whether the results are correct. Therefore, is there any suggestion for me to be able to record or store data from the vital sign lab for type IWR1843. I hope someone can help me and provide information that can support my current research

  • Hi, Diyah:

I think the best is to order a DCA1000 board for raw data capture, that is the only method we support officially.  The vital sign demo you are using is obsolete and no longer supported by the team.   Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Best,

    Zigang
