IWR1642BOOST: Error in range measurement

Hi,

I'm trying to measure the diameter of a pipe with the Out of the Box demo. I've configured the board for the highest range resolution (0.039 m) but consistently getting errors in range for the two detected points.

Measured:
P1: 8.79441723227501 cm
P2: 14.657361805438995 cm
Diameter: 5.862944573163986 cm

Actual:
P1: 3 cm
P2: 7 cm
Diameter: 4 cm

Is there any other config that can be changed to improve the measurement accuracy or the range resolution? Thanks for your help.

    This may not be feasible. The range resolution we offer is almost the diameter of the pipe, so I don't think we'll be able to get two distinct peaks at accurate locations. How are you pointing the radar at the pipe? This only way I could envision this being possible would be if you're pointing it at the circular cross section, and even that would be a challenge.

    Thanks for your response.

    Based on the offered range resolution, I understand it's difficult to get accurate readings of the two points. Is there any scope for error correction here? Since the first detected point itself is being offset by approximately 6 cm.

    Currently, I'm pointing the radar to the length of the pipe. I've attached an image for reference. Pointing it at the cross-section may not be possible in our use case.

    This may not be feasible to be honest. You will almost certainly not want to rely on the detected points from the out-of-box demo, which may discard samples from the zero-doppler bin. You should take a look at our level-sensing code, as this is closer to your application than the out-of-box demo. However, you will likely have to modify it because you are trying to image a radial pipe, and level sensing is typically used for measuring the surface of a fluid in a tank.
