AWR1443BOOST: Displaying the same value every time in mmWave Demo Visualizer X-Y scatter plot

Part Number: AWR1443BOOST

Hello,

I want to ask you if it's normal for showing me the exact same value of certain object in X-Y scatter plot in mmWave Demo Visualizer.

I want to measure distance of one object (wall) and I use X-Y plot for that. I was measuring the object for cca 10 minutes and it displays me exact the same value every time even in six decimal points.

I am using physical meter too and I sometimes replace the radar a put in in the similar spot in the meter and it display me still the same value.. is It ok or is the radar broken?

  • I think it is fine.

Please keep in mind that there is a range resolution. The radar will provide discrete range measurements based on range resolution

    thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello,

    Well, good then.

But still I wonder it always show me the same distance value even exactly to six decimal places. (even after sometimes replacing radar or object)

It is a little bit disturbing.

I have show these results to my profesor and he said that he don't believe me at all

    Here is example:

I was measuring door (object). In green it is distance value measured by physical meter and in the white it is measured by radar.

    1. meranie (Slovak language) = 1. measurement (english)

  • Hi,

If you move the object you should see the detection moving in the range profile for zero doppler

    Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello,

Well, if you say so, then I will trust you. But still it's a little bit strange for me, I would expect the distance value will be changing at least at second or third decimal point and for sure in fourth, fifth and sixth dec. point as well during measurement after a little object replacing (very small object moves, maybe in millimeter spectre)

  • Thank you

    Cesar

  • Hello,

I have one more question I want to ask you a that's it about difference between AWR and IWR sensors in distance measurement.

It is possible that IWR sensors are more accurate in distance measurement than AWR sensors?

I am asking beacuse my friend has IWR sensor and he said the Visualizer shows him different distance values more often when he power off and power on the device. The measured object and sensor are in the same positions (not moved) in every measurement

  • Hi,

Functionally there is no difference. Behavior should be identical. The same demo is running on both sensors.

    thank you

    Cesar
