IWR6843AOPEVM: Radiating pattern measurement

Hi,
In one project, we placed a dielectric lens on the IWR6843ISK to improve the directivity of the system.
Now, I would like to measure the radiating pattern of our system to validate it and to be sure that we will be able to do that, I need some information :
- I saw in the datasheet that the output power of the AOP evaluation board is 10dBm. Is it the total power obtained on 4 GHz or the power at a single frequency ?
- In dev.ti.com/.../node I saw that you measured the radiating pattern of Tx-Rx pairs and never of a single Tx or Rx antenna. Is there a reason for this ?
- Finally, Is there a way to generate a single frequency signal with the IWR6843AOP board to facilitate the measurement method?

The datasheet states that the output power of the AOP is 15 dBm in section 8.7. This is averaged over multiple frequencies and angles.

Pages 33-34 show power over frequency and angle.

This is because for radar to work, the radio waves must be broadcast/received by a pair of TX/RX antennas, so it's important to consider them as a pair for operation

Thank you for these answers.

Concerning the output power, does it mean that if we reduce the frequency band on which we generate the FMCW signal we will still be able to have this 15dBm power?

Hi Fabien,

You can see curves of our output power over frequency in the datasheet for the IWR6843AOP on pages 33-34. I am not sure what you mean by "reduce the frequency band". If you mean reducing the center frequency of the band you're emitting in, then you should be able to see the difference in output power in the datasheet over frequency. If you mean reducing the bandwidth of the chirp, then the output power should not dramatically change, and you'll again be able to see the power over frequency in the datasheet.

Hi Nathan,

I had not really understood that it was 15dBm of average power on the whole band and not of total power it's why my previous question didn't really make sense.

The datasheet answers well all the questions I was asking.
