IWR6843ISK: Overhead People Counting

Part Number: IWR6843ISK

Hello,

I would like to use the Overhead People Counting lab, but i only have the IWR6843ISK, is it possible to use the lab?

Thanks,

Ana

  • Hi Ana,

Technically yes, you could run the lab with the ISK, but you will have very poor performance. The ISK antenna design is really unsuited for overhead configurations: it has low elevation FOV, giving a small area of coverage in an elliptical shape when mounted above. This is why we do not provide an ISK binary to flash the device with in the lab.

Therefore, the general answer is no. We recommend using the ODS.

    Regards,

  • Hi Luke,

But about the software of the example, even knowing the possible performance degradation, is it possible to run the lab using the iwr6843isk without any changes?

    Thanks,

    Ana

  • You can but will have to make some changes to make it functional. Since the chip is the same between the ODS and the ISK, yes, you can run the lab. You'll have to use the ODS flash and then correct the ODS chirp configuration in the lab for the different antenna pattern. The lines you'll have to modify in the .cfg are antGeometry0 and antGeometry1. You can learn how to make those changes in the document "3D_people_counting_detection_layer_tuning_guide.pdf", found in the docs directory of the people counting lab.

Again, we want to reiterate that we do not recommend this, the FOV with this antenna pattern is inherently disadvantageous for overhead use cases. Since we do not support this, you'll have to tune your software yourself.

    Regards,

    Luke
