DCA1000EVM: alternate data capture board

Dear TI,

I want to use your sensors 60GHz radar sensors to capture raw data. I see that the DCA1000EVM is not available. Please can you let me know of alternate methods in which I can capture data from the radar sensor on my laptop (raw or somewhat processed)?

Hello Nazia,

Can you tell me what kind of Radar data you are looking for? If you are looking for visualized point cloud, range profile, azimuth heatmaps, then you do not need a DCA1000. The link below shows you all the kinds of output you can get from the radar device alone.

A DCA1000 is needed if you want raw ADC data in order to create your own processing chains. You are only able to record a single frame of raw data with the mmWave sensor by itself. Continuous streaming of frames in raw data form will require a DCA1000

Dear Pedrhom,

Thank you for your kind reply. I want to use heatmaps and point clouds for my indoor applications for research purposes.

Please can you guide me if I use a 60GHz radar sensor, what should I purchase (sensor and any accompanying boards) so that I can get the data you described in your response? Will I be able to transfer this data to my laptop for further processing? I will be really grateful.

The same question is for the 77 GHz sensor for example AWR1642.

Hello Nazia,

I would recommend the AWR1843BOOST for 77GHz and the IWR6843ISK or IWR6843AOPEVM for 60GHz.

All data is streamed to your computer via USB using UART communication protocol.
