Hi Ti Experts,
- How many kinds of gesture recognitions can FDC1004.
- What is the range of gesture recognition.
- what is the principle of Rain / Fog / Ice / Snow Sensor for FDC1004.

Hi Ti Experts,
Hello,
Gesture recognition with the FDC1004 depends on the sensor design and capacitance shift seen for the gesture. This would be similar to proximity sensing using the device but adjusted to accommodate the desired gestures. Any materials that interact with the sensor will have different responses depending on their properties. The range of the detection would also be dependent on the sensor design. For more information about proximity sensing with this device, see the Capacitive Proximity Sensing Using the FDC1004 (Rev. A) app note.
The 'Rain / Fog / Ice / Snow Sensor' mentioned in the datasheet refers to detecting rain/fog/ice/snow on the sensor or surface above the sensor.
The sensing direction is related to the shield on the device and the sensor layout. A plain copper sensor would be sensitive in both directions to an object coupling to it. With the SHIELD pin on this device, you can prevent the sensor from being influenced by objects that are not in the direction you wish to sense. For more information on this, see the Capacitive Sensing: Ins and Outs of Active Shielding (Rev. A) app note.
