In mmwave_industrial_toolbox_4_10_0/labs/People_Counting/docs/3D_people_counting_detection_layer_tuning_guide.pdf, we find that the detection range of the radar to the target is affected by the SNR detection range. What is the minimum SNR for radar detection targets? What is the maximum SNR that a radar signal can generate?

Hello,

Due to SNR being a ratio, there is not exactly a max or minimum SNR ratio as your signal and noise values are going to change depending on chirp configuration. If you are looking into details in terms of detection of various object sizes, we have a document on RCS (radar cross-section) and detection performance across different kinds of objects.

You can use the mmWaveSensing estimator to get stats on your chirp configuration's performance and then do data collection with various CFAR thresholds to get SNR detection that meets your application.

Hello,

In https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra593a/swra593a.pdf, I find that we can use mmWave demo visualizer to get the Range Profile and Noise profile as shown in figure below. I want know if we can get SNR using the Range profile and Noise profile value. And which fomula can we use?

This document on chirp parameters will be very helpful to you, and I would pay most attention to page three which goes over SNR and max range.

The mmWave Sensor calculates the SNR for you for every point, the mmWave Demo Visualizer just doesn't visualize it. If you want to see everything the mmWave Sensor can output, check out the UART Data Output document in the Radar Toolbox on the TI Resource Explorer. SNR is in "Side Info for Detected Points"

Within the downloadable Radar Toolbox I would also suggest trying the Industrial Visualizer under tools to get an idea of the point cloud and how each point has its own SNR value.
