DCA1000EVM: Some solutions and issues regarding data capture without using PC.

Part Number: DCA1000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243

Q1:Can I send the data collected by AWR2243 with DCA1000 through Ethernet to an FPGA with an Ethernet interface for data processing?

Q2:Is it feasible to control the operation of DCA1000 and AWR2243 only through the FPGA's UART port without a computer after they are both programmed? If feasible, what commands should be sent through the UART port?

Q3:How to use Raspberry Pi to control DCA1000 with AWR2243 for capturing the data?

Q4:We currently have two solutions for controlling AWR2243 with DCA1000 for data capture without using PC.

The first is to use the FPGA's UART port to output commands to control the DCA1000.

The second is to use Raspberry Pi to replace the PC for controling AWR2243 and DCA1000.

Which of these two solutions is more reasonable? Are there any other more suitable solutions to capture data using AWR2243 with DCA1000 wthout PC

These questions have been troubling me for a long time, and I am really looking forward to your answers to them. Thank you so much!

  • Hi Ying,

Please find my responses as follows:

Q1:Can I send the data collected by AWR2243 with DCA1000 through Ethernet to an FPGA with an Ethernet interface for data processing?

If you have such a setup, then I don't see why not.

Q2:Is it feasible to control the operation of DCA1000 and AWR2243 only through the FPGA's UART port without a computer after they are both programmed? If feasible, what commands should be sent through the UART port?

Ideally this exchange of control commands should emulate something like what the mmwave Studio does.

Q3: How to use Raspberry Pi to control DCA1000 with AWR2243 for capturing the data?

You have mentioned that you already have a solution to do this right? Could you please elaborate what approach you took for this and what additional info you were seeking for?

Q4: We currently have two solutions for controlling AWR2243 with DCA1000 for data capture without using PC.

The first is to use the FPGA's UART port to output commands to control the DCA1000.

I cannot comment on which of these solutions is better as it completely depends on your usecase and what it is you are trying to accomplish. You can take into consideration factors like cost, ease of use, requirement, form factor etc. and come up with an answer I presume.
