DRV401: Magnetic field probes

We want to design a hall effect based current transducer using DRV401. Could you please suggest part numbers of magnetic field probes from VAC. You quick response is highly appreciated.

Hello Raju,

The DRV401 uses a flux-gate probe and not a hall effect sensor. From my understanding VAC does not sell the field probes individually. Most of the time this device is used as the analog front end with the field probe and compensation core designed by the end user.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I assume if this device is released for public use If VAC does not sell field probes, other manufacturers may support it. Could you please suggest other manufacturers' field probes that the device support?

Hello Raju,

Normally what I have experienced is the customers of the DRV401 design their own flux-gate probe as the mechanical portion is normally defined by the designer and they send the probe to get manufactured by a magnetic core vendor. The issue I have came across is these vendors normally ask for large volumes.

The DRV421 is similar to use but there you are limited mechanically on how you can implement and some cores do not degauss very well with the DRV421.
