Hi Team,

Our customer have several technical questions regarding the AWR1843AOP evaluation module as follows:

1. Are the transmit and receive elements on the radar independently controllable? While the radar has 3 transmit and 4 receive elements, could I configure the dev board to have 1 transmit and 2 receive, 2 transmit and 2 receive, etc.

2. For the raw data collected from this device, is it I and Q data from each antenna element, respectively (i.e., no channel summing)? We are looking for data streams right after ADC with no post-processing done. 

3. Can data be collected from this device and stored offline? Is the DCA1000EVM Real-time data-capture adapter for the radar sensing evaluation module required for non real-time processing or just for real time processing?

4. Is there a way to get access to raw data before the signal is deramped? So digitized deramped data?

    Please find my responses below:

      Yes, this is configurable.

    2. For the raw data collected from this device, is it I and Q data from each antenna element, respectively (i.e., no channel summing)? We are looking for data streams right after ADC with no post-processing done. 
      Yes. The ADC data will have I and Q data for all receiver channels.

    3. Can data be collected from this device and stored offline? Is the DCA1000EVM Real-time data-capture adapter for the radar sensing evaluation module required for non real-time processing or just for real time processing?
      The ADC data is streamed out using LVDS for which the DCA1000EVM is required for the data capture. The DCA1000EVM is not intended for real time processing.

    4. Is there a way to get access to raw data before the signal is deramped? So digitized deramped data?
      Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "before signal is deramped"?

    Thank you for your responses. In regards to question 4 and deramping I am referring to taking the echo signal and finding the difference with the corresponding transmitted signal, beat frequency. I need to get the raw echo data with no modification. Is this possible with this respective HW configuration? If not, are there any similiar mmWave sensors that give this capability?

  • Hi Michael,

    There is no mechanism to obtain this raw RF data before mixing. Usually, RF signal before mixing with the Tx data does not carry much meaning. Would be great if you could mention why, you were looking for this data.
