DRV5011: Reason for Via?

Part Number: DRV5011

In the Datasheet, there is a Via mentioned. What is the reason for that Via? ESD or mechanical reasons?

Please inform us about the backround?

  • Kay,

Thank you for reaching out with your question.  The package you have shown uses a thermal pad:

While this device doesn't consume any large amount of power, the via is present because it is common practice to place a via to GND in all thermal pad footprints.  As noted in the section you highlighted, this via may be optional depending on your design rule constraints and routing requirements.

    Thanks,

    Scott
