LDC1312EVM: LDC1312EVM is not working.

Part Number: LDC1312EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC1101EVM, LDC1312

Hello,

Recently, I purchased some Inductive sensor EVMs(LDC1312EVM, LDC3114EVM, LDC1101EVM) from TI store

Every EVMs works well except LDC1312EVM.

LED was ON when I plugged USB but, it doesn't recognize on my system. So, I tried to some guide(link) to fix issue.

So, I could update firmware successfully. But, Issue is not fixed. Still Window doesn't recognize EVM. I can't use it.

And, LED isn't ON when I plugged USB.

Thanks,

  Chongchun Moon

  • Hello Chongchun,

Sorry you are having this issue. I have a couple debugging steps that you can take to help determine the cause of the issue:

    • Does the EVM show up in windows device manager as an unknown device or not at all?
    • Can you probe at J8 to ensure that the 3.3V rail on the EVM is working properly?
      • If not, you can also check the 5V rail with he provided testpoint

  • Hello,

I just upload Rev A. Firmware to make sure. Please refer to image below,

And, What I can see the device in the device manager is like this as below,

With that condition, I tried to install driver manually, It doesn't works as well.

I can tell you that 3.3V rail on the EVM is working properly

    Thanks,

      Chongchun Moon

  • Hello Chongchun,

It seems like the EVM may not be properly communicating with the LDC1312. If the 3.3V rail is fine, can you prove the sensor connections to see if there LDC1312 is driving the sensor coils?

Can you also probe on the I2C lines in between the MCU and LDC to see if there is a failure in the I2C transaction when the board is powered up?

    Thank you,

    Justin Beigel

  • Hello,

There is no communication on I2C bus between MCU and LDC.

BTW, Where can I find out marking information on Chip package.

Because, It looks like wrong LDC chip is placed on EVM.

But, I am not sure because, I couldn't find out any information such as marking label.

Can you check that on your side?

    This is what I have,

    Thanks,

      Chongchun Moon

  • Hello Chongchun,

That is the correct part for the LDC1312EVM.

With the LED not being on and no I2C data, I suspect there is something wrong with the MCU or firmware. I have a few more questions for you:

    • I see yours wires soldered in for reflashing the MSP firmware. Just for clarification, these are disconnected once the firmware flashing is completed, correct?
    • Can you probe at the sensor connectors to see if the LDC1312 is oscillating them?
    • Do you have a way to communicate over the I2C bus from another source (MCU or test equipment)? If so, are you able to read/write registers to the LDC1312 manually?

    Best Regards,

    Justin Beigel

  • Hello,

Yes, I remove a Jumper after finishing download firmware.

Also, I can see 40Mhz frequency running on CLKIN.

I broke EVM board to read data over I2C. And I can read manufacture ID over I2C.

ID is correct as image below.

I don't know what else I can do. I keep spending time to debugging this EVM upon receiving from TI store.

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

It appears the LDC1312 on the EVM is working properly. Everything in your debugging points to something wrong in the MSP portion of the EVM. Did you have any issues with the Sensing Solutions GUI install? Were you able to run it as admin? Also, for the LDC1101EVM are you using Sensing Solutions or the LDC1101EVM specific GUI?

    Best Regards,
