AWR2944: HWA2.0 DC estimation(OR interference statistic )reset mode

Hello Champs,

The two reset modes DC estimation and interference statistic is related with per-chirp and per-frame.

1. What's the advantage and disadvantage between the two modes.

2. Is the power consumption of the two modes the same?

Thanks

  • Hi Shine,

Let me check with the team and get back to you.

  • Hi Shine,

    Please find my responses below:

    1. What's the advantage and disadvantage between the two modes.

In per-frame mode, the DC is likely to be estimated only once during the entire run. Typically, a pilot frame of chirps is used to estimate the DC in a paramset with DCEST_RESET_MODE 3. Once the Accumulator is populated with this data, the actual paramsets are configured with DCEST_RESET_MODE set as 0. By doing so, the DC estimation paramset and operation can be skipped which will save cycles to the HWA (DC subtraction only performed with values held in the accumulators).

    2. Is the power consumption of the two modes the same?

Per-frame DC estimation will have reduced power consumption when compared with the per-chirp estimation due to the absence of the estimation operation in the subsequent frames.

  • Hi,Kaushik

In the interference statistics module, there are also these two reset modes (per chirp and per frame); Here is my understanding:

For per frame mode, during radar operating time, interference statistics are only performed on the first frame, and interference estimation is no longer performed on the remaining frames. The threshold of the first frame is used for interference localization

May I ask if the above understanding is correct

    Thanks

  • Hi Ruxue,

The INTF_STATS_RESET_MOD E is only responsible over the control of resetting the interference stats accumulators and the IIB counters. The effect is not the same as DC estimate. Interference detection is something that would have to be done every frame as it is a random event.
