Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMP91000
Hi Team,
I would like to double check with you whether TPS8804 support Acetylene gas and Hydrogen detection? If not, do you have another suggestion? Thanks!
Sincerely
Frank

Hello Frank,
The ASIC was designed with smoke and CO in mind. With that said, looking at TPS8804 subblocks: the device has two AFEs
As shown below:
Technically, the customer could use the amplifiers within the TPS8804 to support their application, but this will entirely depend on how the customer plan to implement an Acetylene gas and Hydrogen detector.
Likewise, I would advise checking the TPS8804's amplifier specs (CO and Photo amplifier) to see if this meet the customer's specs. As mentioned previously, the TPS8804 is meant for commercial smoke detection applications.
My suggestion is to refer to the following website regarding gas detection:

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the comment, do we have some reference design by using Amp for the Acetylene gas or Hydrogen detector? My customer may not have experience on how to use Amp to built up such gas detector circuit. I have checked the website from your response but I don't find out such reference file/design which can let customer take it as reference. Is it same measurement principle for Acetylene gas and Hydrogen as CO and smoke? Thanks.
Sincerely
Frank
Hello Frank,
Understood, I think it would be beneficial to contact the appropriate SEM team about a gas detector circuit reference design. Let me get back to you on 4/10. As Josh has mentioned, the LMP91000 is also a part to consider for this application.

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the double check, btw, do you have any recommendation for the sensor which used in the TPS8804? Customer would like to take that as reference for both Photodiode and CO sensor, thanks for the support.
Sincerely
Frank
Hello Frank,
Here are a couple of links to prior TPS880x inquiries:
The CO sensor used - https://www.figaro.co.jp/en/product/entry/tgs5141-p00.html
Regarding sensor for the photo amplifier, refer to the following thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors---internal/f/sensors---internal-forum/1062450/tps8802-tps8802?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=TPS8802%20photo#
Essentially, the photo chamber, which consist of the photodiode, any LEDs, and photo chamber is designed specific to customer application. The TPS880x only provides analog front end to read the photo diode within the chamber.
