LDC0851: LDC0851 stacked coils design issue

Part Number: LDC0851

Hi TI Team,

how precise does the layer orientation have to be for a stacked coil? In my application I have a coil with 16 turns and a distance between the turns of 0.15mm. The copper width is also 0.15mm. Approx. every 10th circuit does not work. Could this be due to the layer orientation? The manufacturer specifies a layer orientation tolerance of +- 50 µm.

Best regards

Andreas
  • Hello Andreas,

Can you share more design details of your coil? For example:

    • outer diameter:
    • number of layers per coil:
    • Capacitor value:
    • Resonant Frequency:
      • If not, do you have the expected inductance value for the coils?

Since you are seeing only some boards have a problem, is it possible to provide oscilloscope captures of the sensor oscillation waveform for both a working and not working board?

    Best Regards,

    Justin Beigel

  • Hello Justin,

    the outer diameter is 15,5mm

there are two layers per coil.

Layer Stackup: coil Top Layer<0,36mm Prepeg>Coil Inner Layer1<0,7mm Core>Coil Inner Layer2<0,36mm Prepeg> Coil Bottom Layer

The resonace frequency is about 5.5MHz.

The faulty sensors always turn on.

i Can not upload the oscilloscope captures. Can i share you the captures per e-mail?

    best regards

    Andreas Bertels

  • Andreas,

We are not encouraged to give out emails in a public forum like this.
As an alternative to email, I will send you a friend request via the E2E private messaging channel.
Once you accept the friend request, you can send the oscope captures via private messaging.

Once we have those, we can move forward.

    Regards,
    John
