IWR6843AOPEVM: Level sensing with some obstacles

I would like to measure the distance between the sensor and the ground (earth) through wood and straw, is it possible to do this with high accuracy?

I'm thinking of buying this sensor (https://www.ti.com/tool/IWR6843AOPEVM) and testing it with this example (https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__AMIRzzFfLQdhCxzdyy.fEg__radar_toolbox__1AslXXD__LATEST)

does anyone recommend me a P/N to do this, and if this is possible?

Hi,

Using IWR6843AOP you will not be able to detect the ground when wood is an obstacle, However it might be possible with straw. As wood and earth would reflect similarly sensor will not be able to detect earth when wood is inbetween. Detection is possible only when the object infront does not reflect much and the object behind is a strong reflector and has much greater RCS

To start my tests do you recommend using the IWR6843AOP? or the IWR1642BOOST? or some other model that might be promising with the straw

You can look at IWR6843ISK which has better antenna performance than IWR6843AOP

But if you want to make a product later and do not want to design the antenna yourself you can check IWR6843AOP
