Dear TI Team,

However, I am having difficulty understanding the response provided by the TI expert.

I am using the AWR1843AOPEVM, which includes a CC2640R2F Bluetooth module. Based on the schematics of the AWR1843AOPEVM, it appears that the UART and logger output of the AOP device are connected to the Bluetooth chip (as well as to the UART-USB converter chip).

Currently, I am able to interact with the EVM via USB to use the cloud-based visualizer. However, I would prefer to communicate with the AOP through the Bluetooth interface. When I power up the EVM, I see a Bluetooth device named "Simple Peripheral," but I have not been able to find any information about using Bluetooth with the EVM.

Do I need to flash the on-board CC2640R2F with specific code to enable it to work with the EVM? Additionally, do I need any additional hardware to perform the flashing?

Please advise us on the next steps.

Hi,

Thank you for reaching out. For this request you may experience longer response than usually as engineers from different teams, sitting on different time zones have to be consulted. I am Clement, and Bluetooth Low Energy is my main area of expertise.

If I may, the AWR1843AOPEVM should include a CC2642, not a CC2640R2F. This point of detail has its importance as these two devices are not binary compatible.

Flashing the CC2642R

In order to flash the CC2642R, you should leverage the JTAG interface exposed on the "BT_JTAG_HEADER".

You will need an HW debugger to generate the proper JTAG signals.Several debuggers are supported. If you ask me, I would recommend to get an XDS110 debugger, or rather a CC2642R/CC2652R evaluation module (https://www.ti.com/tool/LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1) which includes the debugger.

Once you have the LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R1, you can isolate the XDS110 by removing a few jumpers. Then you can easily route the signals from the debugger to the "BT_JTAG_HEADER".

Running some code on the CC2642R

In case it was not clear so far, the CC2642R is a Bluetooth Low Energy MCU with a programmable flash and several peripherals (UART, I2C, SPI, I2S, Timers, Crypto, etc.). We offer a royalty-free SDK (https://www.ti.com/tool/SIMPLELINK-CC13XX-CC26XX-SDK) including drivers, documentation, software stacks, examples, etc. You can also refer to the SimpleLink Academy (https://dev.ti.com/tirex/explore/node?node=A__AFv2RHc05qHpNf27sGG3mg__com.ti.SIMPLELINK_ACADEMY_CC13XX_CC26XX_SDK__AfkT0vQ__LATEST) and our additional examples (https://github.com/TexasInstruments/ble_examples).

Using the resources mentioned, you should manage to build some code to collect the data from the AWR1843AOPEVM. Sorry for not being more specific, but, my understanding of the AWR1843AOPEVM being limited, I am not sure how the data extracted by the radar is inputted to the CC2642R (I notice both UART and SPI inputs).

I would recommend at first to verify if you manage to get the data using non-Bluetooth LE examples (i.e. "drivers" examples).

Latter on, once you reliably collect the data, I would recommend to leverage the simple_serial_socket example available on our GitHub (see https://github.com/TexasInstruments/ble_examples/tree/simplelink_cc13x2_26x2_sdk-5.10/examples/rtos/CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL/ble5apps/simple_serial_socket_server). This example should provide you an easy way to transmit the data from the AWR1843AOPEVM to an other Bluetooth LE device. [Additional recommendation: the CC2642R on the AWR1843AOPEVM should be the simple_serial_socket_SERVER, while the other Bluetooth LE device should either be a phone, or a CC2642R running the simple_serial_CLIENT].
