Hi,

We are having a significant TI-IWR6843ODS board failure issues. We are getting a failure of the USB communication. All the LEDs on the boards continue to be lighting up as always expected and we are getting the appropriate current draw (measured via a USB hub current detector) but we are no longer getting any USB communication from these boards. We are unable to do anything with these boards, including reseting the switches to reflash the firmware. Have you seen this before? Any suggestions as to why this might happening or what we can do to reset/fix these boards.

Some background, we flashed FW on 12 boards and they worked no problem. We flashed the same FW days later, all successful flashes, and now 9 boards do not want to communicate with our PC while 3 still work fine.

Hi Brock,

Is it possible you had an ESD event? I assume your switches are set in the correct positions as indicated by our docs.

You could also completely wipe the memory from the devices using Uniflash, and barring that, you could put the boards in debug mode and see what gets stuck.

Hi Nathan,

After a lot of investigation, we determined our issue to be human error in assembly. Somehow, during install into our housings, we were breaking off R100, an 0201 resistor. since we had operational devices, we did not think the issue at first would be board damage, but a second look under a microscope proved otherwise. We were able to replicate the issue by purposely removing the resistor on a different radar board.

The resistor is very near a screw hole. Given it’s a 0201, any pressure seems to break the component. Certainly a lesson learned on our part.
