IWR6843AOPEVM: Getting data using the Bluetooth connection

Hi,

I programmed IWR6843AOPEVM Revision G for a people counting application and it works with UARTs over USB and I can visualize the data. I was trying to get the same data over BLE and I set the switch configuration based on the EVM user guide. I have connected to the Bluetooth module named "Simple Peripheral" using the passcode "123456" and now I have two COM ports called Standard Serial over Bluetooth link. But, I can not get any data from them. Is there any extra programming or config that should be done?

Hi,

You need to program the bluetooth devices to send and receive data. The Simple Peripheral example does not do this by default for the data coming off the IWR6843 device. I would recommend flashing the simple serial socket examples to mimic UART communication.

I would personally recommend developing with an external bluetooth chip connected to the IWR6843AOPEVM just because the debugging capability built onto the CC26xx device mounted onto the IWR6843AOP is quite limited.

Hi,

Thank you for your help. So, is there a way to program the CC26xx without using the MMWAVEICBOOST module and using only the IWR6843AOP?

And just to clarify, what you mean is that the Bluetooth option is useless unless I program the CC26xx separately and just mapping the UART to it using the switches on IWR6843AOP can't give me proper data through BLE?

Hi Amir,

I'm saying that you will need to program the CC26xx to stream data off of it. If you can connect through the MMWAVEICBOOST to do so then go for it. You can program the CC26xx without the MMWAVEICBOOST, but you'll need to make some board modifications. I can send them to you if you're interested.

Hi again,

I wanted to thank you again for the help. Also, I have another question. Are there any documents on how to use MMWAVEICBOOST to program the CC26xx on the IWR6843AOPEVM? I am guessing that it would be easier to program it through MMWAVEICBOOST, so it would take less time and be the proper choice to program many sensors.

Hi Amir,

You cannot access the CC26xx device using the MMWAVEICBOOST. You'll need to access its JTAG headers directly. I would like to recommend again that it would likely be easier to use a separate CC26xx device for this task, as you'll notice that the BT JTAG header on the IWR6843AOPEVM may not have the same connections on the CC26xx side as the XDS110 device you'll use to program it.
