HDC3020-Q1: question about the application scenario

Part Number: HDC3020-Q1

Hi team,

My customer want to use our humidity sensor HDC3020-Q1, since I have not used such sensor, I have some application questions:

This is used for automotive power seat. My customer want to use it to sense the humidity of the cushion.

1. Where should we put the sensor IC? It seems that the IC can only sense the humidity of the PCB board. Can it support off board sense?

2. How big is the detection range?

3. Do you have similar case for us to refer to?

Thanks for your support!

  • Hi Iris.

The HDC3020-Q1 features an open-cavity package where the sensor is directly exposed to the ambient air. The device measures the humidity in the air. This allows the humidity sensor to measure the relative humidity and temperature in its immediate environment.

In your application you want to make sure that the humidity sensor can reflect changes in the ambient environment, rather than PCB board conditions. Please refer to section 9.4 of the HDC3020-Q1 datasheet for Layout Guidelines which include for example:

    1. Isolate all heat sources from the HDC302x-Q1. This means positioning the HDC302x-Q1 away from power intensive board components such as a battery, display, or microcontroller.
    2. Use slots or a cutout around the device to reduce the thermal mass and obtain a quicker response time to sudden environmental changes.
