AWR6843AOP: Factory calibration without using an anechoic chamber

Part Number: AWR6843AOP

I have some questions about factory calibration without using an anechoic chamber:

1) how do I know if the noise created by the clutter is low enough? Are there quantitative criteria for judging?

2)The figure below is the range plot in my test environment of calibration. The corner reflector (CR) is located 1.8m in front of the sensor. CR is the peak of the direct path reflection of the corner reflector which range is 1.8m. However, there is also a peak A at 0.7m and a peak B and 2.2m which source is unknown. Can I set a search window of 0.2m with a command like below to filter out peak A and peak B to get a reliable calibration result?

measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase 1 1.8 0.2

  • Hi,

    1) how do I know if the noise created by the clutter is low enough? Are there quantitative criteria for judging?

This will be up to your discretion.

Can I set a search window of 0.2m with a command like below to filter out peak A and peak B to get a reliable calibration result?

    measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase 1 1.8 0.2

You may, but I would recommend redoing this in a location that is less cluttered to get a more reliable result. You should only see one peak in the range-profile plot.

  • Hi Nathan,
    Thanks!
Is there a source code of measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase ?
I would like to know the exact meaning of searching window .
Let's say the command ' measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase 1 1.8 0.2 '.  What does the region the calibration software search for the peak of corner reflector? Is it a cube located at 1.8m at boresight with side lengh 0.2m? Or, is it an region between two spheres which radius are 1.7 and 1.9?
    Regards,

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

Is there a source code of measureRangeBiasAndRxChanPhase ?

This is built into the out-of-box demo.

It is a spherical cutout, so mathematically it would be defined as the region where the radial distance from the radar is greater than 1.7 m and less than 1.9 meters.

  • Hi Nathan,

    Thank you very much.
    I have another question:
    3) Why the IF is set at 1MHz according to the doc 'spracx7 mmWave Production Testing Overview'?What is the purpose of this setting?

    Regards,

    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

I think this is meant to be a typical frequency since returns may be more or less than 1 MHz, so it's a middling value.
