IWR6843ISK-ODS: Inquiry about operation failure of IWR6843ISK-ODS

Part Number: IWR6843ISK-ODS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843ISK

Hello,

I have purchased IWR6843ISK and IWR6843ISK-ODS before.

I tried to play with those two modules using also DCA1000 board to extract raw data.

In briefly summary, when I have utilized 'mmWave Studio' and 'mmWave Demo Visualizer' programs,

I commonly found that IWR6843ISK operates well, but IWR6843ISK-ODS does not work whether DCA1000 board is connected or not.

For example of using IWR6843ISK-ODS,

in 'Connection' tab with 'mmWave Studio' (I am sorry, I cannot upload any figure due to the company's security issue)

'No.of Devices Detected' : 0

'FTDI Connectivity Status' : connected

'RS232 Connectivity Status' : Disconnected

'SPI Connectivity Status' : Disconnected

and, BSS FW cannot be loaded.

Also, four COM PORTs for 'AR-DEvPack-EVM-012' is not assigned in Device Manager in this case.

On the other hand, IWR6843ISK is working very well without device recognition failure.

For more explanation in the case of using 'mmWave Demo Visualizer' program,

I found the messege, "connecting to 1 of 2 targets" for 'ISK-ODS' (from checking the connection status in the bottom of the progam tab.) even though two COM ports are assigned in 'Device manager' in PC. On the other hands, when I use 'ISK' in the same way, "connecting to 2 of 2 targets" is found and radar operates successfully.

So I guess something is wrong in IWR6843ISK-ODS antenna module itself.

Please let us know some solutions with the point of view for antenna module itself.

If it is needed, there seems a serial number backside of each antenna board (ISK : 6382600161, ISK-ODS : 6383100218).

Thanks.

B.R.,

Junseuk.

  • Hello Junseuk,

The four 'AR-DEvPack-EVM-012' ports are exclusive to the DCA1000 and should appear regardless of the connection of a mmWave sensor. Are you saying you never see these ports?

The message of  "connecting to 1 of 2 targets" can happen to any sensor, and commonly occurs when trying to connect to the sensor while the pinmux switches are in the wrong state. The switches should be in the "functional" state rather than flashing or development states when using any of our visualizers.

And just to be sure you have it, this is the most updated guide we have for using the DCA1000

  • Hi Pedrhom,

Thanks for the reply and providing good information.

Sorry, I think since I cannot show the example in figures, what I want to ask becomes unclear with only the written explanation.

Actually, what I initially wanted to ask you in the beginning is that when I use an 'ISK' module, both programs (mmWave Demo Visualizer and mmWave Studio) work normally.

But if I use an 'ISK-ODS' module with the same setting of the connection with the 'ISK' module, it doesn't work at all.

Moreover, from your comment as "The four 'AR-DEvPack-EVM-012' ports are exclusive to the DCA1000 and should appear regardless of the connection of a mmWave sensor."

I found that there are four COM ports during the connection of DAC1000 and PC, regardless of the connection of a mmWave sensor.

And, when I attached an 'ISK' module on the DCA 1000 at this state, four COM ports is still recognized well.

However, when I attached 'ISK-ODS' module on the DCA 1000 in the same way, the recognition of four COM ports are disappeared sothat I cannot utilize 'mmWave Studio' program.

Thus, I guess something is wrong in IWR6843ISK-ODS antenna module itself.

Please let us know any information about how to debug antenna module itself.

    Thanks a lot.

    B.R.,

    Junseuk.

  • Hello,

If this is true, then it is possible that the ISK-ODS is creating a hardware short of some kind when connected to the DCA1000. This is highly irregular and I do not believe any sort of incorrect configuring could cause this behavior. With a short on a component somewhere on the EVM, it might be more trouble than it's worth to try and find and then replace the part. Can you confirm if the ISK-ODS was ever working for you? Please reach out to your representing field applications engineer or customer support, and you can provide this thread as proof of a defective unit.

    Best Regards,

    Pedrhom

  • Hello,

    Thanks for the comment.

Actually, I haven't seen my ISK-ODS module working at all (by 'mmWave Studio' or 'mmWave Demo Visualizer') from when I had purchased. I have just used ISK module until now. But, still I want to play with ISK-ODS module too.

So, do you think my module needed to be replaced with a new module by asking for this issue with representing field applications engineer or customer support?

    Thanks.

    B.R.,

    Junseuk.

  • Yes I think it needs to be replaced
