LMT86: Does LMT86 can be P2P replaced by the TMP20?

Hi Team,

My customer want to use TMP20 to replace LMT86. Both materials are packaged with 5pin SOT. What is affecting now is that NO.5 pin is VDD in LMP86, but it is GND in TMP20.

Whether these two component can be replaced by pin to pin?
If not, set NO.5 pin as NC (not GND) in PCB. Can these two materials be used normally?

Hi Lucas,

I believe that it should not be a problem if you were to set pin 5 as NC instead of power for the TMP20. However, I would highly recommend your customer use the TMP235 if they are looking for a P2P replacement for the LMT86. The TMP235 also comes in a DCK package and pin 5 is explicitly marked as NC.

Thanks. I want to double confirm that can I change the pad of LMT86 pin 5 to NC and only supply VDD to LMT86 by pin4, it that ok for LMT86?

Hi Lucas,

After looking into this some more, I do not recommend making this change for the LMT86 - please follow the pin out diagram as shown in the datasheet. If you would like a device that has pin 4 set to VDD & pin 5 set to NC, I would recommend you switch to the TMP235.

Thanks. So you means we don't recommend to left Pin4 as NC and make the LMT86 and TMP20 as P2P device. May I know why? Does that means the LMT86 Pin4 and Pin 5 are not internal connected and need to power at same time?

Hi Lucas,

I do not recommend changing the pins on the LMT86 and attempting to make the two devices (LMT86 & TMP20) p2p. The datasheet states how to connect the pins for each device and I would follow that. As mentioned previously, the TMP235 was designed to be p2p with the LMT86, so please take a look at that device and let me know if you have any questions.

Pin 4 on the LMT86 should be kept as VDD (shown in the datasheet), not NC.
