We would like to conduct a study of vital sensing using mmwave sensor modules.

I looked at your web site, but could not fully understand the differences.

Therefore, could you please tell me the features of the following modules? Also, which module would be suitable for a vital sensing application?

Also, I understand that DCA1000EVM is needed for raw data acquisition, but what functionality does MMWAVEICBOOST have?

Hello,

The differences between EVMs of 6843 is related to either antenna design or power level. You can find details between the EVMs on this page: https://www.ti.com/design-resources/embedded-development/industrial-mmwave-radar-sensors.html

For all 6843 EVMs, an ICBOOST is needed for the additional I/Os interfaces and most importantly the ability to run code in debug mode which allows for the usage of breakpoints within Code Composer Studio (CCS) for ease of software development.

For Vital Signs the best antenna pattern for it is what we have on the 6843ISK, but it still functions on 6843AOP.

The differences between the modules were found to be the antenna pattern and power level.
I also check the "Best Practices for Placement and Angle of mmWave Radar Devices" and found that each module has a different azimuth and elevation angle, which helped me understand better.

However, I would like to know more about the need for mmWaveICBOOST. I know that IWR6843ISK and DCA1000EVM are necessary to acquire raw data with the mmwave sensor module, but is MMWAVEICBOOST necessary to process that acquired data and write the developed algorithm to the mmwave sensor module? I would like to know if there is a document that describes MMWAVEICBOOST in detail.

Hello,

The most popular use case of the MMWAVEICBOOST is for the debugging with breakpoints capability via the XDS110, but there are more functions than that on the MMWAVEICBOOST with its headers and JTAG capabilities. Details on the MMWAVEICBOOST can be found in the "60GHz mmWave Sensor EVMs" document under section 2.

As far as being able to capture raw data without an ICBOOST, all 6843 modules of the NEWEST REVISION is able to do this. You can check the EVM Hardware Compatibility table found in the DCA1000 User Guide in the Radar Toolbox on TI Resource Explorer.
