Greetings All,

Overview: I am working on a project based on the MRR Lab that needs changing the chirp configuration of the radar front end, so I am using the Mmwave Sensing Estimator Tool (advanced tap) to generate the config file and translating the generated parameters to the MRR config files in the common files section.

However, the generated parameters sometimes crashes the core and is not working at all even when the estimator doesn't give any errors or warnings at all. I am suspecting it has something to do with timing constraints but I am not sure. Is there any limitations/constraints (min/max limits for ADC_Start_Time for example) that I should be aware of?
On the other hand, sometimes the generated configurations work fine but with much higher max_range and max_velocity than expected by the estimator. So is it not very accurate or reliable to use or what might be the source of this issue?

Can you please share the configurations that are causing issues with the MRR lab and a description for each CFG of the error that is arising. We just need more context to help you with your issue.

Hello Luke,

Sure, For the first case, this Configuration doesn't work when translated to the MRR at all, but doesn't give any errors.

For the second case, this configuration works but better than expected.

Hi,

The MRR demo uses a chirp/frame configuration that was optimized for MRR/USRR specifc use case.

So, it will not be possible in most cases to use the Sensing estimator to create a frame config and then use it with MRR demo.

So, I would say that the behavior you have observed is expected.

Are you using the MRR only mode or the MRR/USRR mode?

What changes would you like to make to the chirp configuration?

Hello Cesar,

I am using MRR only mode, the announced scene parameters (140m max. range, 140kph max. velocity) are working only with an object of 30 RCS but for an object with 20 RCS about only 75m max range.

So I am trying to increase the max range at RCS 20 while maintaining the maximum velocity limit, note: I can compromise in the range resolution up to 2m.

Are you using the AWR1843BOOST antenna or do you have a custom antenna?

I think that with the BOOST antenna it will be difficult to achieve this performance.

Hi,

With the BOOST antenna you will not be able to achieve this performance. You will need a higher gain antenna to improve the range performance.

Hi,

The MRR demo uses hard coded configuration. If I understand correctly you have ported the output of the sensing estimator to the hard coded format.

Unfortunately the MRR demo was not tested with other frame configurations. So, it is possible that specific numbers of chirps are not supported.

And the code was not instrumented to provide error feedback.
