AWR1843BOOST: Is DCA1000EVM needed for Baseband IQ logging

I was looking at working with wideband FMCW radars for personal research and was wondering if I were to use a AWR1843BOOST would I be able to access the baseband IQ data in non-real time data collection such as collect and logging? If not, what data would I be able to access (i.e. point cloud)? I'm looking to run my own signal processing chain via offline playback on the IQ data in python and was trying to understand if the DCA1000EVM is needed.

Ok so to confirm, the DCA1000EVM is needed to access the IQ data? What level of data can be recorded by the AWR board itself

Hi Ryan,

The DSS_L3 memory is used to store the data. It can be the raw ADC data, or the 1D FFT data or the point cloud data as well depending on what data you want to extract from the device. As described in the application note DCA1000 can be used but it is not necessary to collect the data. For example, you can extract the raw ADC data from the device saving Raw Data Using Capture Demo and CCS.

All the details are mentioned in the application note shared previously. As you mentioned you wanted to run your own signal processing chain the raw adc data will be a great starting point.
