TUSS4470: Standalone receiver

Hello

I would like to know if the TUSS4470 can simply act as a receiver.
I have two devices, one on the ground that transmit the ultrasonic beam (40khz) and I have a moving device with some sensors on it.

Now i'm using some opamp to amplify the signal and a simple comparator to have a digital output.

The system works quite good but I would like to try some ultrasonic ICs to have a better response and maybe a minor sensitivity to mechanical vibrations (like bumps againts the device).

Hello Marco,

Yes, you can use the TUSS4470 as a standalone receiver. In this case, it would not be necessary to have the external circuitry on the output of the device, so the OUTA and OUTB pins can be left floating. The IOx pins, which are used to drive the transducer portion of the device, can also be left floating since the default configuration requires a specific SPI command for generating an ultrasonic pulse.

that's lovely

to work like a stand alone rx would it need any spi configuration? the device cannot do any spi comm.

Hello Marco,

If the default configuration works fine for your application, it is not necessary to set up any SPI configuration. Keep in mind that if you need to make any changes, you will need to set up the SPI configuration, so make sure that the default configuration works for your application.

I have tried the component but unlukily i have no response.
Maybe the default settings are not ok for a 40khz carrier?

The circuit i have made is like the one in the schematic without the tx part.

VOUT is always HIGH, like it cannot sense the input signal.

Could you provide me an image of the signal, as well as your receiver schematic? Also, how far is the receiver from the transducer? I need additional information regarding your setup so that I can better understand your issue.
