AWR1843: TX transmitting power for different central frequency from 77GHz to 81GHz with 1 GHz bandwidth

No matter of design of antenna (Skip the antenna S11 design issue for this question)

Settings:

SOC: AWR1843 (3Tx 4Rx)

Backoff: 0

RX gain: 48

Will the different central frequency (1GHz bandwidth) impact the TX transmit power?

For example:

* Chirp 1: 76GHz ~ 77GHz (Central freq. 76.5GHz)

* Chirp 2: 77GHz ~ 78GHz (Central freq. 77.5GHz)

* Chirp 3: 78GHz ~ 79GHz (Central freq. 78.5GHz)

* Chirp 4: 79GHz ~ 80GHz (Central freq. 79.5GHz)

* Chirp 5: 80GHz ~ 81GHz (Central freq. 80.5GHz)

Antenna design issue aside, will the TX transmit power differ for Chirp 1/2/3/4/5?

Hi,

start-free, Rx Gain and Tx Backoff properties are driver by the profile configuration.

AWR1843 can support max. 4 unique profiles and each chirp in frame is connected with one of profile out of these 4 profiles.

So if you have 4 different profiles (each have different start frequency and Tx backoff) then yes, you can differ TX transmits power (based on TX backoff) for 4 unique chirps in a frame.

On the other hand I would suggest you to go over training video (https://www.ti.com/video/series/mmwave-training-series.html?keyMatch=: mmwave Radar Programming Model) to get more understanding of chirp, profile, frame etc. of AWR device.

Thanks for your suggestion.

If we have 4 different profiles (each have different start frequency but the same Tx backoff and RX gain) then the transmitted power should be the same, right?

Dear Kuowei -

This would generally be true for any variable frequency transmitter, but of course the ERP or EIRP would be driven by losses in system and Fc tuning and antenna gain.
